5 Minute Devotional: Leading Your Family Spiritually
My Brothers,
I don’t want to just encourage you in your faith, family, and work—I want to equip you. Too often, we hear messages that inspire but don’t give us practical steps to take. That’s why, for the next four Sundays, I’ll be sharing 5-Minute Devotionals—quick but powerful reflections that will encourage you in your walk with God and help you take action.
Today's devotional is titled "Leading Your Family Spiritually."
Maybe, like me, you’ve struggled to lead your family in prayer, Bible reading, or devotions. I get it. I have two Bible college degrees, and I’ve still struggled in this area. But when I made the decision to take action, everything changed. Now, family devotions are a core part of our home.
My hope is that these next four Sundays will jump-start your spiritual leadership—not just for today, but for your wife, family, and future generations.
Let’s get started.
Leading Your Family Spiritually
Bible Verse:
"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." – Ephesians 5:25
Reflection:
Do you ever feel like you’re failing as a spiritual leader? Like you don’t know enough, don’t pray enough, or don’t have the right words? You’re not alone.
Many men feel unqualified to lead their families in faith. Maybe you didn’t grow up in a home where faith was a priority. Maybe your wife seems more spiritually mature, and you don’t know how to step up. Maybe you’re just not sure where to start.
Here’s the truth: Your family doesn’t need a perfect leader—they need a faithful one.
Ephesians 5:25 doesn’t say, “Husbands, be the most spiritual guy in the room.” It says to love like Christ loved the church—with sacrifice, humility, and consistency. Spiritual leadership isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about showing up, being present, and pointing your family to Jesus, even in small ways.
You don’t need a seminary degree to be the man God has called you to be.
You just need to start.
Application:
If you’ve been hesitant to lead spiritually, start small:
Pray for your family today. Even a one-sentence prayer counts.
Ask your wife one spiritual question. ("What has God been teaching you lately?")
Open your Bible in front of your kids. Let them see you in the Word—it matters more than you think.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to lead my family. I don’t always feel equipped, but I trust that You will guide me. Help me love my wife and children like Christ loves the church. Give me wisdom, patience, and courage to step up in my faith, even when I feel unqualified. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
Tonight, before bed, take 30 seconds to pray over your wife and kids. It doesn’t have to be fancy—just a simple, "Lord, bless my family and help me lead them well." Small steps lead to big changes.
